Chris Cummings

Editor Raring2go! - Brighton, Brentwood and Billericay and Bristol
``The business is very flexible in terms of hours, the overheads are low so the rewards can be what you want them to be.``

Chris Cummings started his Raring2go! franchise 18 months ago and now looks after three editions in Brighton, Brentwood and Billericay and Bristol.

I had worked in media, events and advertising sales previously so a magazine publishing franchise was a natural choice, I researched Raring2go! and was really impressed with what I found.

I now have the support of a national network and because the magazine itself is of a very high quality it is not hard to sell advertising space. The business is very flexible in terms of hours, the overheads are low so the rewards can be what you want them to be.

The level of support both from head office and from other franchise owners has been great.   I would certainly recommend the franchise to others as it offers a good work life balance.  If you put the hard work in during the first 12 months and build up relationships with clients then you’ll get the results you want.

``The training and on-going support has been excellent, I would definitely recommend a Raring2go! franchise...``

I was made redundant and I found Raring2go! and it really appealed to me as it allows me to have much more flexibility so I can spend more time with my two children.

“So far it could not have gone much better, profit levels are great and I am getting new customers coming on board all the time. I have advertisers who have been with me since I started and quite a few on annual deals. It’s also nice thinking you are giving the local family community a service they can really benefit from, everyone I speak to is so positive and responsive about it, I know if I wasn’t editing the magazine I would be using it to see what is going on for my kids.

“The training and on-going support has been excellent,  I would definitely recommend a Raring2go! franchise to anyone who is considering it, it’s the best decision I have ever made. It gives you so much flexibility to work around your family life, and is also very rewarding both financially and personally.”

``I was really struggling to find the right work life balance in my last job…``

I’d fallen out of love with what I did, and I was really missing spending more time with my two children.

I desperately wanted to find a more child friendly career, where I could still work hard but where I was in charge of my time and so could be there for my kids.

Raring2go! has turned out to be the perfect answer.  It really couldn’t have gone any better.  I was worried that I didn’t have the right experience, especially sales experience, but the support, guidance and “hands on” help Raring2go! offer is amazing.

I love what I do, I see my kids and I make excellent money for the time I chose to put in.

Raring2go lets me have the freedom I need to concentrate on the things that matter to me while also being able to run a profitable business that fits in around my time and my life.

``I have achieved so much in my confidence, building friendships, getting out into networking groups...``

If you’re thinking of working for yourself, to have a great job opportunity that is flexible around your family and lets you still do everything you need to do for your family then Raring2go! is for you. I’m in my 8th year now, which says it all really.

You’re not on your own either as there is a great network and support management behind you always. I have achieved so much in my confidence, building friendships, getting out into networking groups and above all, building a business that suits me and my family.

``I desperately wanted to find a more child friendly career, where I could still work hard but where I was in charge...``

Being an Editor for Raring2go! has been the best thing ever for me and my family.  Having had my two children I knew I didn’t want to go back into the 9-5 rut but I also knew that I wanted to do something to challenge me as I’d always worked in fairly highly-pressurised environments and wanted that buzz back!

I hadn’t considered working for myself until I stumbled upon Raring2go! and despite being a bit scared of the prospect of “going solo” the more I thought about it the more me and my husband recognised it ticked all the boxes we were looking for.

8 years later and I wouldn’t change a thing… I LOVE what I do, no two days are the same and I really enjoy all aspects of life as an Editor.  It’s been a perfect fit for our crazy family and has allowed me to be there for the children every step of the way.  Sure, there are days that are tougher than others and it is hard work (you must be super-organised to make every second count) but isn’t anything worthwhile hard work?

The thing that makes Raring2go! stand out from the crowd is the network of Editors – you may be self-employed but you’re never alone, as the network have your back every step of the way.  Here’s to another 8 years!

``I'm proud to be part of the Raring2go! national family and love what I do.``

Little did I think in the Autumn of 2007 when I put my very first issue of Raring2go! to print that 10 years that 10 years later I’d be putting my 41st one to print! In the last 18 months I’ve reached the milestone of 1million copies in Aberdeen City & Shire, launched into Glasgow and celebrated our 10th birthday.

My little 18month old daughter is now on her final year at primary school and my Raring2go! business has given me the time flexibility and financial freedom to support us, allow me to develop other business interests and to embed me strongly into my local community. I have also been lucky to gather a group of like minded women around me who work with me on a freelance basis to produce the very best magazines we can each issue.

I’m proud to be part of the Raring2go! national family and love what I do. Every day brings something new and we not only help local families have fun and make the most of the local area but we help local businesses reach those families, helping our local areas thrive. What’s not to love about that? #Raring2go!
